Tried twice - both defective

The first one I ordered was defective and I didn't understand it until the returns window closed. That means I lost $99. My video technician said it was probably just an accident. Ordered a second one and had the same problem with a defect. "Clicks, freezes, files cannot be saved"

Buffalo MiniStation 2TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive. Buffalo

I bought 2 of these portable USB 3.0 MiniStation 2TB Buffalo I bought 2 of these external hard drives. I use them on both PC and Mac. The trick to using them on both PC and MAC is to format them as EX-FAT. I don't fully trust any external hard drive, so I always back up my data to another external hard drive just in case. It's also a good idea to back up your data to the cloud.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Expensive Insurance

Installation couldn't be simpler

Just take it out of the box, read the quick start guide, plug it into an available USB port and start using. If you want to use the encrypted feature, it just takes a little more effort. I like the deck form factor and the lack of a power cord. As another reviewer noted, a slightly longer USB cable would have been an added plus. So far performance has been satisfactory - no noticeable lag - so all that's left is durability; the time will show.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Some complications

Dead after 6 months

Not recommended. A few months ago I was scared as I thought it would drive me crazy and now that I've had it less than 6 months it doesn't work. So crazy.

  • Quick replacement

Large volume, fast loading.

Although I had to buy a powered USB hub to speed up the download, this external hard drive is great if you use the software provided on the website. Some external hard drives had download speeds of over 200 gigabytes in 24 hours. Buffalo with an active USB hub and software did the same job in less than 3 hours!

Good external/portable hard drive

This is a good buy for anyone who needs a spindle drive external/portable hard drive. It can be connected to a mini laptop without power problems. My other external is 7200rpm and won't work in mini laptops due to its power requirements. The hard drive's casing is stable; it fell onto the carpet without being damaged. Transfer speeds are okay, not great as I've been playing around with SSDs and 7200rpm drives for a long time. But for the money it's a good buy.

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Broke in less than a year

I bought this product less than a year ago. I have treated it impeccably (I even keep it in the original box it came in). It's already broken; When I plug it into my computer it lights up for a few seconds and then just goes off so the computer doesn't recognize it. Additionally, Buffalo's support team does not provide any kind of support for this product, not even a real-time phone call. This is a huge waste of money. My previous external hard drive lasted almost 5 years. It was a different…

Pros
  • Automatic backup schedule for PC with Buffalo Backup Utility
Cons
  • Minor things

This is my second Buffalo hard drive. The first worked without problems, but had a built-in power supply. This device does not have a built-in power supply, it is only powered by the USB port. It didn't work at all (neither did Seagate). Buffalo Technical Support resolved the issue and I realized that a powered USB port is required. I used a 7-port USB 2.0 pluggable charging hub (only USB 2.0 ports on my desktop) and problem solved. Now this device works exactly as expected. I stored the first…

Pros
  • Two-year standard manufacturer's certificate
Cons
  • Very expensive

Died within the first hour!

I'm a photographer and bought this to back up three other very old drives with connection issues. I paid a pro a bunch of $ to recover old data and put it on this drive, plugged it in, started working and within 45 minutes it was stuck and nothing could thaw it. I couldn't stop it, extract, etc. It just hung and made clicking noises. I spent about 2 months trying to get the sellers to honor the recovery plan I bought. (It was a nightmare!) Eventually it was sent and they apologized, I must have
