I have set it up so that Android, Apple, Linux and Windows 10 can see the files on this NAS. Windows 10 shows my folders that are on the NAS and I can do what I can. as if the files were on my computer. So I can move, delete, copy and back between PC and NAS. Also, I can open the Movies folder on the NAS and watch my movies with VLC. I don't need a Stader. It's nice for me that all my PCs can see the NAS folders. Before I got a NAS, I had to take an external hard drive and plug it into the PC I was using. I now keep my external hard drives in a closet (for backup) and use a NAS with two 8TB WD Red drives to share my files across all my devices at home.
