Polk makes phenomenal speakers at an affordable price. Their signature line is all you need to create a proper 5.1 or 7.1 setup that will never let you down. I have a BIC F1 subwoofer which is also incredible value for money. I plan to get another one for the 5.2/7.2 setup. Get these items on sale, there is no point in paying full price. In fact, most people will never use a 7.1 system. There just aren't many Blu-ray or streaming sources that offer better sound than 5.1. Dolby Atmos is probably the best use for a 7.1+ receiver, with a pair of small speakers, either on floorstanding speakers or in the top corners of your TV wall, reproducing atmospheric sounds: rain, running water, blowing wind. trees, sounds of battle. I built the rest of my surround sound system around a pair of Polk Reference II two-way floorstanding speakers I previously purchased (shown, one grille removed) that sonically match the brand's range. If you want the best sound, it's going to cost you a fortune. In the photos the grilles are removed, the grilles are magnetic which is great. My kids destroyed a few, replacements were adequate.
