These filters are about as basic as it gets. This is a square of unbleached paper. It fits easily in the Chemex coffee maker. I recommend them. I would not use them again. One of their purposes is to absorb some of the bitter oil extracted from the beans. I've read where people wash and reuse them. The? The only thing I would caution against is to buy them here at Revain. Even at Whole Foods, they're $100 for $10. Go to your local hardware store or grocery store and pick them up. The prices listed here are outrageous.
