Bought another one. Same great performance and even better shortwave sensitivity! I gave the first one to a friend who needed a great AM/shortwave radio and ordered another one before they stopped making them. I ordered this radio because it is a true old school analog radio with amazing battery life. Two AA batteries should last over 100 hours. I listen to a lot of AM and I'm in an area with a weak daytime signal, so it's easy to test stations on the AM band. I tested the radio as soon as I got it and it works very well on both AM and HF. It works poorly on FM but picks up strong stations. But let's face it. We didn't buy it to listen to FM anyway. Many of us have seen others praise its value and performance on shortwave radio websites and YouTube before deciding to buy. I tested the shortwave sensitivity against digital radios that cost five times as much and this radio works well. If there is a signal, he hears it. Unlike digital radio, you can quickly tune into the shortwave bands to find active stations. If you live in the US or Canada, a good weekday evening shortwave destination is 4840 starting at 10:00 p.m. ET. The station broadcasts from Nashville in English. My radio picks up all daytime AM stations that my other radios pick up and works particularly well on distant night time stations. This is a very powerful DX machine, especially when using headphones at night, and works well with my Tecsun AN-200 loop. Using the loop throughout the day along with headphones, I got decent clarity at two distant stations at 138 and 260 miles. At night I had no problem hearing the WJR 760 in Detroit, 968 miles away. The radio sounds great using headphones while listening to AM and shortwave. Its speaker sounds a bit tinny, but acceptable considering the size of the radio. I've spoken to people who have owned these radios for over five years so it's clear they are made from quality parts. I collect portable radios and I think that's something special. It has a few advantages over more expensive digital radios including price, battery life, easy setup, simplicity and no soft muting when listening to weaker AM and shortwave stations. If you're looking for great FM quality, get a digital radio or the amazing CCrane EP PRO.
