If the batteries run out or the device is not used for a long time and the batteries are replaced, the menu may suddenly appear in Chinese or Japanese instead of English. I had to call Olympus support to fix the problem. Correction below: 1) Unhold and put into voice mode. (2) Press and hold the View Menu button for a few seconds to enter Menu mode. (3) Scroll down (with the bottom of the fast forward button) by pressing it 6 times. (4) Press the play button once (5) Scroll down once (again using the fast forward button). (6) Press the play button once, (7) Scroll down once (use the fast forward button again), 8) Press the play button once. A bar will appear at the bottom of the screen (it takes a few seconds for the bar to turn solid black). This will reformat the recorder (all recordings on it will be lost) and reset to English. You can try downloading the files before doing this so you don't lose any files on your voice recorder.
