The picture is a bit deceptive. The panel shown is only 18 inches, not the full 36 inches. I had read a previous review of this product so wasn't surprised to find two plates instead of one which isn't too bad. Easy to assemble. I wanted bubbles to break through the gravel, so I used a spiral saw to make cuts on the sides to get the air duct and two small air stones under the panels. At first I wasn't very happy with the way the air was bubbling but after doing this with other aquariums I left it overnight and the next morning was amazed at the bubble pattern I was getting. The effect of bubbles in the tubes is great - thousands of tiny bubbles with almost no noise. In fact, if they ever got really quiet air pumps, I would hardly hear any bubbles in the filter.
