I recently upgraded to Gigabit service from my ISP and didn't get the results I expected. My HP desktop is from 2012, so it's an older computer, but it came with an Atheros 10/100/1000 network card. I usually upload around 500Mbps so my grandson tested the speeds on his new laptop. It peaked at over 900Mbps so I thought it might be my old network card and decided to upgrade it. I bought a Ugreen network card and after removing the bottom part for installation I tested it. I didn't get anywhere near gigabit speeds, but I did notice an improvement and hit speeds of just over 600Mbps. I had some free time today, so I decided to install the Windows 10 May Update. I postponed it because it's a big update and it took over an hour to install. After the installation my internet speed dropped a lot. I checked if I have the latest driver and I did. I couldn't get past 450 Mbps so I decided to try again with my old card. It still has the same speed as before the update (500+ Mbps). I tried changing some of the card's default settings but didn't see any improvement, so I reset them to their defaults. I don't know what Microsoft changes have affected this card, but I don't recommend it if you're using Windows 10 and have recently updated your operating system. I posted a photo of the results I got using two cards. These specific results are from the speakeasy website, but I've tried others with similar results.
