This tool did a great job installing new bearing cups on my trailer hubs! I used a hard plastic mallet to control the tool so as not to damage it. I also used a thin layer of grease in the hub. I started installing the clips with a block of wood until they were flush with the hub. I found it easier to keep the race right in the hub this way. After flushing, I rode the remaining races with this tool. I didn't use a metal hammer. Before doing this, I removed the old bearing rings by pressing a brass rod (which didn't scratch the surface) against the back shoulder of the bearing ring and gently tapping it in a circular motion. around the spine until it fell out of the hub.
