Try it against winter road salt!

I have used Salt-Away with a garden hose mixer spray for many years as a cleaning solution for our motor boat and trailer that are exposed to salt water. As proof that this product makes a difference, I would like to point out that we have been working with a 4 cylinder GM engine (Merc 120 inboard/outboard) for almost 20 years using 'raw' water that is passed through circulates the engine through the output transmission. We are now continuing to use it on a new motor boat with a 6 cylinder engine which is also sea water cooled. Our mechanic says we get credit for simply flushing the engine, but he also said Salt-Away and other similar products help dilute and remove the salt. He concluded that we would not have been able to get 20 years of GM 4 cylinder Mexican iron block service if we had not done this. to get rid of the accumulated road salt used by the highways authority to combat repeated snowfalls this winter. I'm not sure yet if this thing will work against road salt, which in our area is a high concentration of calcium chloride compared to the relatively weak saltwater levels in our brackish bay and tributaries. Out of curiosity, I checked what is actually chemically in this material to be able to combat salt contamination. According to publicly available data sheets, the main ingredient appears to be trisodium phosphate (TSP) and some unspecified corrosion inhibitors. Ph TSP is around 12, which is alkaline, while sodium chloride is neutral at around 7. I haven't found anywhere a good discussion or explanation of the specific interaction between these two elements in a water solution, but I haven't found any either. seen anything to question the company's claims. So, I think it's cheap insurance to slow rust in vehicles, as well as something I've already seen in a boat and trailer.
