So close but not there

I've been looking for this part for weeks. I tried to find a supply of Lowe's Home Depot HD but couldn't find it. In the mesh it looked exactly what I needed, but the two end pieces are a bit too big. Otherwise it would be perfect. I'm thinking about cutting off the old female part but not sure yet. It came quickly. I needed this for an old wall/stove heater.
