Definitely an update for the previous generation of Xbox One controllers (white). The grip on the back is way better than just the bumps on the white controller. It's more like a rubber grip and the whole panel your fingers are on is different than regular plastic. Also, there's a small palm grip on the front (gold part), which is a nice touch, and the buttons are definitely smoother than before.
