I bought this product from Petsmart a few months ago and found it to be the best ever. I went home and turned it on and it was way louder than I expected and the cats absolutely hated it. And when I say out loud, I mean it woke me up a couple of times in the middle of the night as every time it actually activated it just spun around and startled the cats. The motor that spins the bin is insanely loud, I could hear it on the TV even though it was in a different room. Then you have an incredibly loud rake that "pops" as it (tries) to pick up the trash and throw it into the bin. I thought it was just part of the process and boy was I wrong! I had this thing for two weeks before the rake gears wore out, which was only a few days after they either started throwing cat poop on the floor (the rake got stuck and when it shifted the extra power gave me a feces cannon)) or did not come out of the box completely at all. The tray then got stuck in the spin cycle and wouldn't spin all the way, which magically happened about a day after the rake motor failed. This all happened after I realized my cats only used the thing about a dozen times before leaving me little gifts all over the apartment in their disgust at this machine. Calm? How quiet is the 747. He kept hitting on my girlfriend and waking me up multiple times. It works out? Yes, about four days. To keep the cost down, I swear this thing is made out of cheap grade 3 plastic. When I took it back the store manager was surprised when I said it stopped working and the parts were indeed broken. He said he never complained about it, but I think it's because nobody bought it.
