Review on πŸ”’ ACCO BRANDS Xyron Two Sided Laminate Refill for ezLaminator 9x60 - Refill Cartridge (145612): Durable and Easy-to-Use Lamination Solution by Amber Perez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works with an old school Creative Station, but the plastic isn't as clean/clear as the original laminate.

Full Disclosure: I sold an old school 9 inch Creative Station (see first picture) and bought it by myself before the recent redesign. I love the device and still have some of the cartridges I bought when I bought it. I recently used up the last of my laminating plastic and needed a replacement. I was hoping for the same quality as the 40ft lamination rolls originally sold. I chose to buy these 60ft rolls instead of buying the shorter (more expensive) 40ft rolls (presumably: Xyron 0902-01-40). The good news is that the cartridges fit the dispenser correctly and appear to be a suitable replacement for the Xyron 0902-01-40. It seems that the device dispenses the laminate and correctly applies it to the paper. When the paper is fed into the machine properly and the roller decides it's friendly and forgiving, the lamination it delivers is decent. Not outstanding, but decent. If good enough is good enough, this solution may be good enough h.Bad news: There are several issues with this product. I cannot confirm if these issues can be avoided by purchasing 0902-01-40 (or any other product). First, the plastic isn't as good as the original reel plastic/laminate. Look closely at the second picture I've attached. Note the inherent shape of the "watermark" plastic. These marks do not disappear upon lamination in both non-paper and paper areas. Second, the rollers are greatly offset from the center of the cassette and do not align with the machine's receiving bay. Look at the second and third photo I've attached. I think they best show how the rollers don't center properly in the cartridge. To be fair, the device indicates that the paper should be moved flush with the opposite side (a fact I didn't realize until I made this change, as the original rolls of laminate were either better centered or (more likely) wider were). than a full span of 9 inches). My guess is that the amount of plastic has been reduced in recent years (perhaps through a design change) to shave off enough plastic to squeeze out another set of rolls for every 10 or 20 rolls produced. The entire feed surface, or even centered on it, runs the risk of being displaced during lamination. hoping for the best (ie, a straight and correct paper feed). Ugly: The transparency and cleanliness of the plastic and the end product are very disappointing. I can't confirm that plastic 0902-01-40 is cleaner; I suspect that this might justify the higher price. Luckily these rolls are fine for less important laminations but I am disappointed that the quality of these rolls does not match the quality of the original rolls purchased many, many years ago. Finally, these devices work in your (old-school) Creative Station 9-inch roller/laminator/glue at a lower cost per foot of laminate. yourself and choose the one you KNOW you're comfortable with.
