Review on ☂️ G4Free Oversized Windproof Umbrella by William Runninger

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great roof, locking mechanism POOR

This umbrella has pretty good reviews and is perfect for my purposes so I decided to give it a try. One thing that really bothered me, while not a deal breaker, is that the quick release button doesn't line up with the grip. You can see what I mean in the image below. After using the umbrella for about 2 weeks I can say that this umbrella is holding up decently. I've used this umbrella in two fairly heavy downpours (walking around with it for about 15 minutes each time) and there was no tear in the fabric, no broken or dented frame, and no loose threads in the seams. The connecting piece between the wooden handle and the pole seems to be quite strong as there is no slack even after bad weather. Now the most important thing I got with this umbrella. When using the umbrella, I noticed that sometimes the umbrella opened by itself when I walked or when I put the umbrella upright (e.g. when I went straight into a building to keep the rain out before I put the umbrella bind). . After examining it, I found that every time I open the umbrella, the locking mechanism continues to move towards the tip - to the point where it barely catches on the plastic and the slightest vibration disturbs the mechanism brings to work. When I try to pull it to the locked position, the first scenario is that it comes off completely (as you can see in one of the pictures). You can see in the picture that the whole button is hooked on the stem with a little push on the tip of the metal (small hole on the stem). The second scenario is that the button is stuck and doesn't move to the right position and therefore you can't lock the umbrella (also seen in one of the pictures where my hand was holding the umbrella and you can't see the metal actually hangs on the plastic). I've included a separate picture that clearly shows the hook when the umbrella snaps into place properly. It's quite frustrating to constantly have to deal with this loose locking mechanism. This may be fine for some of you, but it really annoys me as it actually takes some effort to adjust the metal so that it's in the correct locking position. TL; DR The dome itself is great, the grip is ok and the locking mechanism is frankly awful to me. The following images are for reference. EDIT (11/3/2019): I've been working with Revain and have already had a replacement mailed to me. Haven't used the new one on storms yet so I'll have to see if a similar problem comes up again. I changed my rating from 3 to 4 stars because I appreciate the customer service and their willingness to take responsibility. It should be noted that the quick release button still does not line up properly with the handle and the position of the button relative to the logo on the handle of the new umbrella is different than the one I replaced. EDIT (9/9/2020): During the winter, right after the last edit and during the quarantine, I hardly used it, but this one is holding up much better than the previous one I replaced. Just thought I'd give a quick update before I forget.
