Review on πŸ”¦ 5pcs HC-SR501 Human Body Pyroelectric Infrared PIR Motion Detector Sensor Module by Oiyagai by John Hall

This is absolute perfection in terms of motion detection!

I've included some photos of a project I'm working on using a mechanical trigger switch to turn on the 12vdc lights in a gun cabinet. This IR sensor is also connected to the vault. So if I leave the door open for a long time, I won't run out of battery in a day or whatever. I found the IR sensor very easy to use. I didn't like the original configuration where the light would turn on, off, then back on. This was fixed by moving the jumper. When I moved the yellow sweater, it turned on the light and then stayed on while I was in front of it, increasing the on time. As I left the room, the PIR sensor started counting down and turned off. The pots were spot on and accurate, I set mine to exactly 60 seconds with a stopwatch. Exactly where I want. I also tested it all day. I set the sensitivity about halfway right in the middle. The flat side is pointing straight down from the breadboard. The sensitivity is good enough to catch me from 10 feet and it's very sensitive but at the same time I've used it all day and never got a single false alarm. It never turned on when it wasn't supposed to. This is important because I don't want my batteries to drain when nobody is around. So I like this position. exactly where i want. IMPORTANT NOTES! My input voltage to the PIR sensor is 12V DC, but the trigger output voltage of the PIR sensor is only 3.3V DC. That means you need either a 3V DC relay or a 2N2222 transistor to boost the voltage by 4x. I personally drove with the relay. I also found them at Revain. Keep that in mind when getting this for your project. In addition, at 12 VDC, the IR sensor consumes only 13.5 mA when not triggered and 12.5 mA when triggered. These are very well made IR sensors. I will become a regular customer! Also, you know you can use a diode in series to pull the voltage down to 3V if needed.
