I like walking a nearby track (as opposed to walking other places) because the composition of the track is best for my knees. The only problem was, after 10 or 11 laps, I lost count, and the step counter on my phone varied from day to day. However strange it may seem, the counter was the excellent answer! I click once after each lap and know when I got my five miles in! Listening to music or podcasts is sufficiently engrossing that losing count of laps was a standard feature of the experience and it would be boring to walk without sound or thoughtful substance,The counter doesn’t require batteries, works perfectly, and comes with a strap that makes it easy to wear. And it’s way more comfortable than an abacus. This is a real find and a great buy. "You’re welcome” (because I know you’ll thank me.)
