Great antenna when used correctly. MUST be attached to something metal at least 14 " x 14 " to function properly.

A great antenna for your home or car when positioned correctly. This is a grounded antenna. For those who don't have enough radio experience to understand what this means, it means that the antenna must be mounted on a flat metal object in order to radiate properly. This isn't usually a problem with magnetic antennas as they usually get stuck in the middle of the roof of your car or truck. But if you try to use this antenna at home without mounting it on a metal object, it won't work for you and might even be worse than a standard smaller antenna. For best home or RV use, it MUST be placed on a metal object that is at least 14" x 14". No matter which metal, the main thing is evenly. It could be a baking sheet, a square piece of metal, the top of a filing cabinet, the top of a refrigerator, etc. Antenna gains are calculated based on the assumption that it is on a plane of infinite longitude and latitude, which is not good at all. :) The smaller the metal object it sits on, the lower the performance of the antenna. So if you're using at home, try to find the biggest metal object you can find to put on to maximize your signal gain. "Ground layer" does not mean that a metal object needs to be grounded. However, to get the best performance in all directions, you need to mount the antenna as close to the center of the metal object it is mounted on as possible.

Pros
  • Radio Antennas
Cons
  • Requires base
