I was about to write a bad review as the stool did not go up and down as other reviews have pointed out. However, after pausing for a moment and looking at the impact part that goes up and down and ACTUALLY looking at the instructions (the chair was easy enough to assemble, you don't need instructions) I found that there was a black cap on the lid. Shock absorber which MUST BE REMOVED or the chair will not raise or lower. Once I get it off the chair it works like a dream! I had to unscrew the base from the base of the chair to pop the cap out. It got stuck because I was sitting in it trying to get it to work. I took off a star because other people had problems and the seller or manufacturer didn't respond to anyone to help. Of course, if someone looks at the instructions, it would be possible to understand, but still. I tested the chair to stay up and down when sitting, love it, works great! Just have to remember that with other chairs that have a shock absorber you need to make sure there is no cover before assembly.
