Exactly what I expected. These aren't thick pads, but they're a great addition. The material inside the soft part looks like multiple layers of fabric, maybe like 2-3 layers of neoprene, not something inflated that can deflate. The elastic around the leg is comfortable to wear, although the material will loosen up if you spend a lot of time with your knees bent. So when you put them on to jump, if they were a little loose they would slide down first. In any case, it's perfectly fine for my use, but if you're wearing them for running and jumping consider a size down so they're a bit tighter to begin with. My knee is 13 inches in circumference (tape measure wrapped around knee). I have a medium and it fits perfectly. I've always wanted people to include sizing information in their reviews, so I hope this helps.
