Plyoballs have been around for a while and are used for shoulder rehabilitation. About half a dozen years ago, Total Control began producing weighted bats. I think their biggest advantage is the feedback they give attackers on contact. If you make a mistake with the ball or clip it, the ball will go nowhere and feel awful.
