I wanted my surround back speakers to work without the wires coming from my media center so I bought a wireless transceiver/transmitter. What I didn't understand when ordering was that it needed electricity to power the speakers. Sat on the project for a few months (no surround sound) and decided to try again. I looked at this device, its size and what I wanted to do with it and ordered it. I hooked up my speakers, powered them (and the receivers/transmitters) via WeMo Smart Plugs, and now we're in business. When my Harmony remote (or Alexa) turns on my media center, WeMo kicks in to power my surround sound and the sound quality is everything I could have hoped for. No hum or background noise, excellent separation and sufficient volume. Before people wonder why I went the WeMo route, I figured everything would last longer if it wasn't unnecessarily turned on when not in use. UPDATE: My first unit works great so I bought a second one for my garage speakers. With Bluetooth for my iPad, the animal is fine. Auxiliary In to my Echo Dot works well with Prime Music, but not as loud. I've read that people have static electricity and overheating. I'm not sure if they have the correct polarity on the speakers or the correct impedance. My devices work perfectly, very clear and without any problems. Since it's very hot in my garage, my second device is connected to WeMo and I installed a USB fan on it and turned off the device's USB port to give it a chance to keep up. I would buy a third one if I had space somewhere.
