is not bad for a beginner. I needed a larger (72") tripod. It's fairly durable, but it's not bulky and heavy. I didn't realize it had a handle to lift the center post and tripod head. I would have a regular stand with a tension knob on the speaker side preferred. Instead, the column has a pull handle on the column with a fitting that clamps the column into the base. In terms of design choice, it's not a bad choice. The problem is that the handle is plastic and it's threaded is very thin if you try to over tighten the knob the threads just snap off Shortcoming I used it with a Nikon 1 camera which is pretty light compared to a DSLR and the speaker didn't slide down. I'm not sure I'll get the same results with a heavier camera and heavier, larger lens. The tripod head is also fairly stiff, even with the grips being very loose. I before given smoother movements. I like the swiveling rubber feet for uneven terrain. Overall I'm happy with this purchase, but I'm just a hobbyist/enthusiast. If you are more serious about your photography I would suggest a higher quality tripod.
