I treat 2 adult horses. One has a sore knee, the other has damaged both front tendons. These ice boots fit both horses. Both horses are warmbloods with heavy bones. You get a pair of boots for the purchase price. They arrived via Revain Prime the next day. 1) Cooling performance: Ice is in large cells, but not too large. With frosting, they stay cold for at least an hour, which is plenty. I cool the horse with two tendons first, then after 20-30 minutes the boots are still cold enough for a second horse without going back into the freezer. I used another brand of small cell boots which soon completely melted and were warm before I took them off. I couldn't freeze both horses in the stable at once. 2) Putting it on: The boots themselves are long and easy to enclose from the knee to the brim. There are 4 elastic straps which are quite bulky and long when not worn by the horse but very handy when used over large areas like the knees or maybe the hocks. The cells in Finn boots are large, but still small enough to accommodate the foot if you put on the straps well. I tighten the rubber bands enough to keep them in place while I'm in another part of the barn. These horses live in paddocks and are not tethered when wearing boots. The boots are high enough that even if they slip a bit, the cannon leg area is still well protected. A boot worn over the front knee is more likely to slip and is barely secured by the top strap, as the area remains large despite the length of the straps. I can wrap it with stand foil or some other type of tape. 3) Construction: They seem solid. The straps, as mentioned above, look a bit like an octopus when rolled up for storage or straightened for use. There's a lot of belts going on. If your horse has been picky, this can be frustrating. But they have to be long enough to wrap around the leg and maybe the ankle or knee, so I don't see a way to bypass those long straps and still make them look as great when worn. The fabric is thin and other reviews mentioned adding a layer like a sock to protect the area from ice burns. I think they are ok and I am not adding any layer. The cages are made out of synthetic "ice" (gel?), not a giant ice cube tied to your horse's leg. I like that the smooth fabric doesn't attract bits of hay, manure, and dirt like the Full Cover Velcro Professional Choice does. It's always a bit fun to put a chest freezer next to someone's candy. Mine came with a nice storage bag. I don't use a freezer bag as the boots have to be rolled very tightly/gently to put them in. I will use the storage bag when/if I stop using the boots on a daily basis. Boots lie sideways in the freezer because they are too long for the freezer door to close. I got some items out of the freezer to put in. Since I'm in a barn open to the public and they live in a shared freezer, I wish there was a light spot to write my name on it. I would be very sad to lose her. 4) Verdict: Great pair of boots for the price. I've been using them every day since I bought them. I easily freeze 2 horses while doing other things because these boots are easy to use. I consider them a third generation product and think they are vastly superior to other ice boots I have used. They are large enough to cover the problem area with ice with a bug in the event of a slide. You don't go to bed and you're cold. I'm the only one in my barn with them and people are impressed.
