I really like the longer neck part as it stays under my layers of clothing and doesn't pop out and also just gives more coverage which is nice for sure. It fits very well, is very soft and will keep me warm on my daily walk or bike ride to and from work. I also really like that the top of the hood is round rather than triangular or "mountainous". I just think it looks a lot better. It's definitely worth it in terms of functionality, use and looks! Update: I have two balaclavas. This one is easier. I use both for winter cycling, to and from work. That's about 3.5 miles there and 3.5 miles back, 4 miles round trip if I choose the "flatter" route. This balaclava is heavier and I like it. It is ideal for temperatures in the single digits and even for wind-chilled sub-zero temperatures. I've used it in -4 degrees Fahrenheit and winds down to -14, and it's been an absolute lifesaver. If you plan on cycling in single digit temperatures and even freezing temperatures, get this. Makes the trip that much more enjoyable.
