Review on KG-UV6D Wouxun Two Way Radio by Robert Berio

This is a great radio for the price I paid here at Revain. This is my first amateur radio station and I think it's a pretty good radio for beginners. If I were to buy my first radio again I would settle for this little guy. Be warned - programming this radio is not easy with the unit itself, and the instruction manual was less than helpful (less than useless, if that is possible). This is clearly a machine translation from Chinese and gives no indication of what each function/setting is - just which buttons to press. Consult an experienced radio amateur (Elmer!) to help you get started with this radio. I bought a programming cable (not included) and downloaded some software from the internet (also not included) to program the radio which is MUCH easier than programming by hand. The standard antenna is pretty good on 2m and 70cm. I am told all the time that my transmissions are clear. I purchased this radio to use in conjunction with my community program, CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams). I was able to use it this week when our CERT team was called to search for a missing teenager in our area. Even in the mountains and out of the repeater's line of sight, I was able to get a clear connection to the repeater. This radio is perfect for the casual hobbyist interested in community preparedness or personal disaster preparedness.
