Plugs, Sockets & Sockets

plus points: the locking mechanism is good. It appears to be powder coated. Cons: The lid doesn't stay open to make plugging in easier. Installing wires is a royal pain. The wires are installed from the bottom of the connector and tightened with screws facing backwards. Given the way the bezel is hinged, it means you have to bend the wires 180° and then the wires block the screws to tighten them. Actually the back of the box should come loose or the wires should go in on the sides of the connector or on top. Because it is a 50 amp plug, the 6 ga cables are very bulky and rigid, making the cables extremely difficult to install securely in the box. Finally, there are only two SMALL screws holding the bezel to the box, and they are ONCE larger than the bezel cutout. If you overtighten them, they will simply warp and go right through the hole, leaving the bezel and outlet unsecured. This is also a problem, if you pull too hard on the plug to pull it out of the socket you will rip the entire bezel off the screws (because the socket is attached to the bezel) which would be extremely dangerous at 50amp 240v.
