Easy to use, easy to clean.

I've never used this type of product so I can't compare it to other soft products. It's very simple and easy to use + it's not difficult to wash/clean at all! The handle is comfortable to hold and the metal part is durable. It doesn't take up too much space in your kitchen drawer. But don't expect every kernel of corn you scrape off a cob to be in perfect condition. The corn on the cob is not quite straight, which sometimes makes it a bit tricky. At the very least, using a corn trimmer is safer than using a knife to get the job done. This device has a cutting edge under a large, flat piece of metal, so there is less chance of cutting your finger than using a knife (unless you hold the cob and cutting edge in the wrong position). The negative side of this: unlike some other types of corn, the design of the knife whose blade is visible is the knife blade under the metal part. That means you can't see the corn kernel properly. The first row is pretty tricky on where to start, how to move the cutter to get the job done. Once you've started the first row, for other rows just place the cutting knife next to the row you just left, etc. It's really a matter of personal preference - unless you're sure you're comfortable with the knife to be able to deal with. Under the metal part that makes it more difficult, you'd better buy ones that can see the blade so you don't have to guess the position of the corn. I'm only buying this because I'm more on the safe side, I don't want the blade to open which is a little risky cutting your finger with juice splattered on your face. More practice makes the job perfect - after a few uses, it's easy to use. I rely on it so much now and will never use a knife again.
