Not a true HEPA filter. I used it at a family member's house where my allergies were pretty bad (along with their very expensive air purifier) and then took it home and used it there. However, this thing doesn't appear to be properly sealed and/or true. The next night, HEPA began blowing the polluted air out of the house. I felt so bad and I immediately realized that this is not for allergy sufferers. Any pollutants that had passed through it during my stay in my family's allergy-stricken home were now trapped in the filter, but blown out along with all the supposedly filtered air at home. This led to a serious and dangerous cross contamination because the next night I got some allergens from my family's house all over my bedroom and I had a pretty bad allergy attack. We had to wash everything, disinfect everything and sent this device back very quickly. Terrible product. Buy a Levoit instead, we bought a similar size and it worked so well we bought a larger size at home.
