Review on Dreambaby Nelson Gro-Gate: Expandable Wooden Walk Through with Gro-Guard Technology by Nadia Torres

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not the right goal for me, but not terrible.

Pros: Nice colour, strong when closed, easy to remove from the hinges if needed for any reason, good span and fairly quick installation. Cons: In our townhouse, our main living quarters are on the second and third floors, so we placed this gate at the top of the stairs from the first to the second floor. Regardless of how we installed it, the latch was right next to the railing (about an inch too far), making the spring open and close very difficult to access. To open the gate, you need to compress the spring and pull the latch out of the groove, pushing the gate towards you. It doesn't snap into place like most gates with hardware and the sides don't slide easily or smoothly. To close the gate you really have to line it up with the slot and then pull and slide it over the loose brackets that snap into place when you're not using both hands. I definitely think this is a much worse design than other expandable gates that snap and lock into the slot when closed. Sliding the gate in and out of the slot is just completely unsustainable. The bottom bracket is U-shaped. When my 8 month old pulled on the bottom of the gate, he moved 1-2 inches away from the bracket. It wasn't enough to create a fall hazard, but there was clearly a crushing hazard. I found that I had to put EVERYTHING I was carrying downstairs (stairs) to open or close the gate, which was very inconvenient when getting in or out with a diaper bag, a baby in a car seat and carried a handbag. Hometown. Overall I wouldn't recommend this gate for use on stairs and I'd be surprised if it was easier to use between rooms but I suppose it's possible.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • The list will go on.
