Hurricane Laura slightly water damaged our cast iron pans. We still don't have electricity but we have running water so today my son and I sat down to clean them. A pot in the photo was the worst. It will need a few more coats but I am absolutely amazed at how easy it was to apply and how beautiful it turned out. I have read reports of oil heating problems. You don't need to heat it up. I used coconut oil before ordering this kit and never heated it. This is a great oil to use. The brush that came with this set did a great job removing most of the rust that had built up on our pots. There are a few deep rust spots that require special attention. I used salt and a chain scraper on them. I will order another brush to have on hand. The only thing I didn't like was the oil sponge. At first he left a little villi and quickly got dirty. I still don't know how to clean it well. Maybe it will be clean when we have electricity and hot water again. Now I will definitely use it. My cleaning procedure: Scrape off food residue, dry with paper towel, wet brush and shake off excess water, use brush to lather some (nickel-sized) soap all over the pot, rinse, dry with flour sack. Grease a towel (leaves no lint) with oil and set the pan aside or put in a cupboard.
