In the event of a power outage, I prefer these lamps to candles. (Much safer!). I use them at meetings in the dining room as they are very pretty and they don't drip wax onto my linen tablecloths. The base of the lantern contains enough oil for more than 10 hours of continuous burning under normal (not too bright) lighting. Cleaning is easy - soap, water and a soft bottle brush. Rinse, blot with a cloth and air dry. The only downside is you have to make sure the glass is secure before walking around with it. This was a substitute for my cats managing to knock off a very fragile top. (Needless to say they're off the dinner table and out of reach now lol)
