These are light to medium weight hangers and should be used with that in mind. I use two in tandem to hang a 1-1/4" curtain rod, just in case. This is 18-20 gauge stamped stock that comes with lead screws #6 x 1/2 in. what means the maximum thread in the base material is about 7/16". It is recommended to use longer screws, but remember that they are lighter than medium-duty hangers. I wouldn't hang anything heavy on these brackets, but they do are excellent for most light duty and some medium duty applications depending on design.
