Review on ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming Motherboard: Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 & 3rd Gen Ryzen ATX Gaming with PCIe 4.0, 2.5Gb LAN, BIOS Flashback, Dual M.2, Addressable Gen 2 RGB Header by James Ssims

Nice but something is missing

Let me start by saying this board is great. In a white case, the white I/O screen looks great, and the board heatsinks look fantastic. I really like the Gen 4 M.2 slot and number of expansion slots. The BIOS is simple enough to navigate with many features. The B550 chipset does not require a separate heatsink fan, which is also a plus. But is it worth the money? At the time of purchase, this board was $60 more expensive than the all-black board, which has more features. There's no USB 3 on the rear I/O, and the built-in Wi-Fi is a disappointment for the price. There's also no USB Type-C port for a case with this option. The picture is deceptive, there is no RGB anywhere except on ports for connecting external components. All in all, this is a very solid board with a decent range of options. For a white body it's hard to beat the looks, but for everything else, especially given the price difference, I can't justify the price.

Pros
  • High performance gaming network: 2.5Gb LAN with ASUS LANGuard
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
