Economical, good cameras, confusing software and update processes. Good support.

ok. back and forth with it. Pros: The quality of the camera is better than many older retail items I've used. The night vision is also better than expected. For $119 it's not bad. The cameras appear to be well constructed. When you connect the DVR to an Ethernet network, the remote viewing quality and response speed are excellent. Customer support is also good. I had a problem updating the firmware and thought I locked my device (I recommend contacting them on Facebook for a quick response). Under the "Search" function hides something like playback. The only way to control this thing is with the mouse. They really need to support a keyboard, custom time searches, etc. This really limits the possible uses. Yes, you can get the same functional result as the best software, but it makes you jump through hoops to get there. AVSS PC remote viewing software is *very* confusing. Ideally, you want competent DVR software and any client software that essentially mirrors that DVR software in look, shape, and functionality. But that's not the case. yes you can check Yes, you can watch live. But you cannot display a specific time period directly by entering the time, instead you have to drag the payline to the desired time. Very unintuitive. The mobile remote viewing software Zosi Smart is not better, but significantly worse. You expect a better user interface, but then again, this is basically AVSS lite and lacks an intuitive design. Wi-Fi is useless in my experience. If you don't use Ethernet, just forget about remote viewing. Persistent failures. Constant buffering. Poor visual quality. Everything is solved with Ethernet except for the confusing user interface. The firmware update process is extremely complicated. I would even recommend not doing it. I spent 4 hours thinking I broke my car. It turns out that I seem to have selected the wrong update file. There is no factory reset. So if you do what I did and it's not during business hours, you're out of luck until someone responds. In their YouTube video there are many comments about problems with the update. This can be simplified by asking the user to select the model number and hardware version from a drop-down list to ensure they receive the correct file. Also, a USB drive MUST be enabled with factory firmware. RTSP is not supported. This means you cannot use Blue Iris or other remote viewing software. They are locked into their platform and frankly, this requires a lot of attention. Supports only one monitor and either VGA or HDMI. In fact, I would have preferred to see 2 HDMI outputs to display 4 cameras each. Now I know that the list of cons is much longer than the pros. But this thing costs $119. 4 HD cameras at 30fps with night vision. It doesn't include a hard drive, but that's part of its low cost. I added a 2TB Western Digital and had no problems with that. If you have a little patience, at least they will react when something goes wrong. They offered to replace my block when I thought it was a brick. Turns out I didn't have the file I needed. So my original 3 star rating is now a 4 star service based rating.
