Boss vs. TView - Boss has a magnetic closure which is great.

I want to intervene very quickly because I know a lot of people can get confused by these fold down DVD players. They all seem the same when you read the reviews. I can think of a good reason to choose this boss over a TView (I can't remember the exact model of the TView, but since this is a structural issue I have a feeling they're all the same). The Boss has a magnetic latch and the TView has a spring latch. Because the boss snaps in place with a magnet, you literally can't break the latch, it just sticks out - and it's tight too. The TView we had in the other car was good but it felt weaker and after about a year the latch started to stick. We drove down the street and it just opened up. Like the Boss, the dome lighting is nice and bright - you can turn it on or off with a switch on the front. When we installed it they set it to turn on when the door was opened. You can turn them off with a switch on the unit itself if you don't want them to turn on when you open the door. The screen is very nice, it's a decent size and the screen hinges feel very solid - the screen doesn't bounce when you hit bumps, it lifts and closes very smoothly. One downside (and this probably applies to all of these devices) is that they have to place a remote control sensor on the back of the screen cover. The remote control sensor is located on the front of the device. So if we're sitting in the front and need to set up another DVD for our kids, we'll have to bend over to the second seat and hold the remote up to the ceiling, and point it at the sensor. Boss seems to process DVDs faster than our TView - when you insert a DVD it only takes a few seconds before it reads the disc and runs the endless previews that come with most DVDs. :) Another comment is that our installer said this unit seems a bit heavier than most. So if you buy one, make sure you have a good enough mounting point on the ceiling. Some people get away with putting them on the headliner. I don't think you'll ever want to do that, especially with this model.
