I used this clamp on the rim of a 6 inch pot of boiling water twice the width of a gas burner with no flame visible on the sides. It melted the two pieces of black rubber at the bottom of my pan's clip and changed the physical properties of the top (cracked/crumbled material carries a high risk of food chipping if you try to disengage it). Heat-resistant dishes in the same area showed no damage. At this point, prying the poor quality material off the metal clip is a little slower than using a dull knife. Technically it still works, and then you have three options: 1. Use "as is": remove all plastic shavings and use as a bare metal clamp (possibly at the risk of scratching the pan becomes). It's expensive for a chip clip to be repurposed for other applications.2. Modify as needed: remove plastic crumbs and use an additional heat-resistant product that you apply yourself as anti-slip protection.3. Throw it away if you've already bought it and it's non-refundable. The spring that opens and closes the clip seems fine, but it would be better not to buy this item in the first place. It is incorrectly labeled as specifically designed for use near heat.
