There is a learning curve for resizing and removing and attaching. That being said, the difference between walking my medium sized dog at night and during the day was after use. My trainer recommended a spiked collar for her and she enjoyed walking her. It doesn't hurt, I've used it on my neck, it's just pressure. If you are afraid to use it, ask a dog trainer for help. We watched several tutorials on YouTube to understand how to remove links and put on and take off the collar after training. The key for us was to use the connection closest to the o-rings and d-rings, squeeze the gear near the bend and pull up after removing. It gets easier to promise with time. But the first few tries will make you feel weak. Overall this is great value for money and my trainer recommended it.
