We had a couple of track lights a few years ago and halogen lights have been around for quite some time. They use a lot less power, provide at least the same if not brighter light, and last and last! If an old halogen lamp burns out, we put one in and immediately notice a positive difference. The only thing to note is that they are lighter and whiter in color so for some people they may need some adjustment. In a track with five separate lights, we ended up removing one of the lights but still felt like we were getting the same brightness in the room. Another thing to note: if you have track lights that use a narrow bulb, they may be too lateral. fit. We had to replace three lamp holders that required very narrow (1.25β³) bulbs because they didn't fit the plugs. It was a small sacrifice as older bulbs have discolored over the years due to the much hotter halogen bulbs.
