Almost all similar cables sold in the aftermarket have problems with the Microsoft Surface RT tablet. This one seemed to have more positive reviews so I took a chance. Upon arrival I plugged it into an external monitor and nothing. I was disappointed. Then I noticed the USB extension cable and actually took the time to read the two-page instructions that came with it. I've been told to try connecting to a powered USB port if nothing works without it. I did (actually I used both ports on my iMac and later the USB port on the Surface RT). When I connected it everything was perfect! I just tried this at work with a flat screen TV and NEC projector and they both work great. As long as you can power the cable via USB, it works great with Surface RT. I'm VERY glad I didn't have to pay ridiculous amounts for a manufacturer's cable. Really great product!
