Review on ☕ Bodum Columbia Stainless Steel French Press Coffee Maker - 34oz (8-cup) - Thermal Insulated Design by Tanya White

Revainrating 3 out of 5

More plastic parts come into contact with hot water than the glass version and the coffee comes out weaker due to the silicone seal

Very nice but also a bit disappointing. I've been using glass french presses for over a decade and Bodum is my favorite brand. I wanted to switch from a glass jar to a stainless steel jar for two reasons. The first was to keep the coffee warmer on cold days when the glass mug, even with Bodum's insulating coating, tended to cool too quickly. The second was away from plastic and towards glass containers. The Bodum Columbia insulated coffee maker with French Press outperforms the former but falls short of the latter. It also doesn't make good coffee. The top of the Bodum Columbia Insulated French Press is made of plastic, not steel. While the plunger mechanism of the glass version is made of metal and only has a plastic catch, the steel version has almost the entire plunger mechanism made of plastic. The silicone ring around the plunger traps the ground coffee in the plunger better than the steel version used in the plunger. glass container. However, it often happens that the liquid also lags behind the piston. I typically use 1 2/3 cups of water for the glass version and the result is a little more than a coffee cup of coffee. Less than a cup of coffee was produced with the same amount of water in the steel version. And that one cup of coffee was weak. Raising and lowering the plunger allowed me to get more coffee. So this steel press is wasteful as you have to use more water and ground coffee to get the same amount of coffee as the glass version. So less coffee and weaker than the glass version. Bad result. Overall, the French Press looks good and keeps the coffee warm. But it has a lot of plastic parts that come in contact with hot water, and it takes more coffee to brew a cup of the same strength than the glass version. All in all this is a disappointment and I have returned to my Bodum Glass French Press.
