Review on πŸ”ͺ SHAPTON Kuromaku Ceramic Whetstone: High-Performance Medium Abrasive & Finishing Product by Richard Counts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

There is nothing better than this.

Absolutely fantastic stones. I have 1k, 2k, 5k, 8k and 12k and love every one of them. They cut very quickly, wear out very slowly and are very resistant to utensils. I use them on knives and most of the time with razors which I restore/sharpen/sell on the side so they get plenty of use and show no signs of wear, especially on thinner stones like 5k. , 8k and 12k. I believe they are still the same thickness (15mm) as when they arrived despite having been used hundreds of times. A maximum of 1k may lose 1/2mm in thickness. Smaller rocks basically never need lapping, and 1k is only needed about every 30 razors if not more often, and when I lap it it barely comes out of the plane. Coarse-grain stones do not clog and clog at all. 12k loads a bit but doesn't stop cutting. And all you have to do is swipe your finger over the downloaded locations and it will float in the water. For the cost, you just can't beat them. Even if they were twice the price, they'd probably still be worth it. I also have many other brands of stones, Naniwa, Suehiro, King etc and they are by far my favorites. I just got 2k for Christmas and they are quickly becoming one of my favorites. It removes metal almost as fast as 1k but leaves a much thinner edge. I use it as a sharpening stone for kitchen knives. This prepares Steel well for 5k and I spend less time on 5k coming from 2k rather than 1k. My next purchase will be 1.5k. I'm thinking of buying a second set to use exclusively for knives and tools and just as a backup. My only complaints are that they don't have 3k and that the Kuromaku 12k is 1.28 microns compared to the American Shapton Pro 15k which is 0.98 microns. I want this 12k version to be less than 1 micron, but the difference is negligible.
