Quality stones: Power and hand tools

Excellent stones. I am a professional chef and sharpen knives frequently and this is great value for money. Nice and thick, well delivered, no chipping. The 1000 model handles the edge processing, while the 5000 model excels at edge sharpening. 8000 lights it up well but I would prefer 1k, 3k and 5k. Generally excellent stones for their money. Definitely recommend.

Pros
  • Hand tools
Cons
  • Expensive

Great stones for hand tools

Bought these to start sharpening a whetstone as recommended by others. These are fantastic stones. After 8000 a few wipes of the leather strap and the edges are polished to a high shine. As directed by the manufacturer's instructions, soak for about 10 minutes before first use. After that they now just squirt and go. Also mine came with all the instructions in Japanese but English instructions can be found on the Shapton website in about 60 seconds.

Pros
  • Power and hand tools
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly

There is nothing better than this.

Absolutely fantastic stones. I have 1k, 2k, 5k, 8k and 12k and love every one of them. They cut very quickly, wear out very slowly and are very resistant to utensils. I use them on knives and most of the time with razors which I restore/sharpen/sell on the side so they get plenty of use and show no signs of wear, especially on thinner stones like 5k. , 8k and 12k. I believe they are still the same thickness (15mm) as when they arrived despite having been used hundreds of times. A maximum of 1k…
