This is a good charging station but it doesn't have surge protection

I have been purchasing Belkins products for many years and have always trusted their brand. When I was offered this for review I was blown away by the prospect. So unlike other electronics brands, I ordered it without prior research. And later, as I usually do when purchasing a Belkin product, I went to the manufacturer's website to find more information. I was looking for information about the surge protection features of this charging station. Something I should have done first. Well, I had to do a little digging to find this information, but I am grateful to Belkin for providing it on the Belkin BOOST CHARGE 8-Port Charging Station (USB/AC), B2B167 FAQ page. On this page, Belkin clearly states, among other things, that the Belkin Boost Charge B2B167 8-Port Charging Station does not have/support Surge capability. I was surprised that Belkin didn't include a circuit breaker in the charging station to protect against surges. So my only option for never using this Belkin charging station is to wire it in series with a power strip with surge protection circuits. I don't like daisy chaining, but if anyone needs surge protection for a device plugged into this charging station, then daisy chaining is it. This charging station looks like it's well made out of durable plastic. And it has four (1.2A) USB charging ports (no fast charging) but a handy cable locking feature that prevents cable loss or is just a useful way to organize those cables. I connected 6ft cables of different colors and plugs to it so we had one charging cable for all our devices. It is also equipped with four 120V AC charging ports, built in a way that makes it easier to use when placed in the center of a table to connect devices placed around such a table. And so far it's working fine. In summary, I'd recommend this if you're also plugging it into a power strip with surge protection capability.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Unusable features
