Review on Maverick BL 01SS Multi Purpose Lighter by Jennifer Wurz

Ok lighter but the plastic part melts and breaks

==> From a technical point of view I think they break so easily because there is a plastic part in the tip of the lighter that melts (right where the flame is) comes out). If you light something while holding the lighter upside down (e.g. lighting a few candles in deep jars) this plastic will heat up and melt. If you do this long enough, the plastic in the tip will sizzle, melt, and eventually even catch fire, so be careful. It also smells very bad. I believe the function of this little piece of plastic is to hold the gas exit nozzle and spark wire in place. Once it melts, the spark will no longer jump or the gas flow will be blocked and the lighter will stop working. In my opinion, that plastic part in the tip should be ceramic instead of plastic to withstand the temperature, and the spark gap insulation should be Teflon for the same reason. Any plastic in the vicinity of a flame can actually pose a fire and health hazard. But I suspect they use plastic because it's a lot cheaper to make them that way. In short: ==> Use the flame upwards, otherwise the lighter will quickly go out. ==> Apart from the problem mentioned above, not a bad lighter. ==> I read all the reviews and warnings but still bought 2 of them and returned 1. ==> The lighters came empty, had to be refilled, which worked well. ==> The button I find is not as hard to press as everyone says, but hard enough for kids to prove. ==> Once refilled, lighters worked fine (as long as you don't melt the plastic in the tip; see above). ==> The flame dial works well. ==> Good shape, good looking========================================= ==============OK, got replacement quickly, good service. But they sent it in a padded envelope so I think it was a bit wrinkled during shipping and broken in the middle where the black plastic piece connects to the metal case. So I sealed everything with epoxy again, now everything works fine. So keep in mind that this is not a very strong product with some reliability flaws. Otherwise it works fine. Not a bad lighter.
