According to the ad, the upper is made of something called nubuck. I read that it looks like suede. If so, then it's lint-free suede. Reminds me of leather in sheepskin jackets. Photos in the ad showed that the rubber material in the band below was a different shade of black than the one above. When I look at real shoes they match and both are pretty much black (the color I ordered). The skin is a little more shiny. Interestingly, this morning I scratched one of the shoes and polished it for a few seconds using an old t-shirt with no polish. Now there is no more damage. When I compare them later, I can't tell which boot had the scuff. I've worn them twice.
