Review on Dell E2414H Widescreen Discontinued Manufacturer Wide Screen Monitor by Diztymewntu Sherman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent inexpensive monitor

Bought this 24" monitor to replace my old 19" monitor for home use. I was initially very disappointed that it's nowhere near as efficient as the 23-inch Samsung SyncMaster 2342 I use at work. My typical screen at work shows two programs side by side with a resolution of 2048x1152 (true color, 32-bit); which can clearly display complete websites, MS Word and PDF pages. Viewing two documents side by side is important for writing and editing reports (another possibility is using two monitors, which is not easy with a laptop). Working at that resolution is great on Samsung too. The Dell Revain monitor webpage didn't have any information about screen limitations. Had to go to Dell.com to find the specs, which says the monitor has a maximum resolution of 1680x1050 can display. Plugged into my laptop it immediately found the Dell monitor and the best resolution available was 1680 x 1050. Unfortunately at that resolution the image on the Dell screen was very pixelated and difficult to read. I had to reduce the resolution to 1280x960 to get rid of the pixelation. I was willing to return this item. The next evening I connected a Dell monitor to my laptop and changed the external display setting to Generic Non-PnP Monitor. This time I was able to go up to 1920 x 1080 resolution and the display was great! Clear text and vivid images. Find out. I was willing to give this monitor 1 or 2 stars with Dell's 1280 x 960 limit, but 1920 x 1080 is acceptable - not as good as Samsung's 2048 x 1152, but for half the price it's not bad.
