Latches work. I bought painted because we had just painted our front boards, new gutters and shutters to match. Fasteners were already very close to this color. **Things I'd like to do before I start** I didn't do a good job of measuring the depth of every hole that was already there, so I tried hammering them past the required depth. Because of this, they buckled, deformed, and didn't fit properly. I had to cut the length of each to fit each hole. So if you're using them to replace some old brackets, I recommend drilling a pre-existing hole to clear any debris left behind, or pulling an extension on a pre-existing hole. ALSO - Use some sort of thin dipstick to measure the depth of each hole so you know how much to cut off before you start hammering them.
