I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I ordered this. But when I got it, I was pleasantly surprised! This device appears to be very well made. This is a solid piece of hardware. The photos don't give you a good idea of its size, but the capacious cartridge is a solid aluminum cartridge. The retaining ring (the knurled portion under the mount) is serrated on top to grip and hold the mount in place. The container itself has a notched ring at the top and the rubber lid has a matching protruding ring on the inside so that the lid "snaps" into place when connected. I have no doubt that the lid will prevent water from entering the container. The cables were long enough to run from the outside edge of my handlebars to the battery, which is roughly in the middle of the bike. I removed the black plastic wrap from the wires (it dangles, just slides off) and replaced it with shrink wrap. But I'm just picky! I think a standard shell would work just fine. After connecting, I connected several devices to check their work. One of them was my Nexus 6P smartphone. This phone charges very quickly if you use the correct charger (e.g. the one supplied or the one specified by Google). All other chargers work slower. When you connect this phone to an old iPod or USB charger, the phone reports that it is "charging slowly". If you plug it into a factory charger, it says "Fast Charge". When you plug it into this charger, it says 'charge' and it charges pretty well. I plugged in my phone when it was 15% charged and left it plugged in for about 20 minutes to do a few more things. When I turned it off it was at 29%. It might not sound like much, but other than the chargers I bought specifically for this phone, it's the fastest I've ever had. The socket has a colored LED that lights up. Mine is blue but I chose blue so I don't know if they ALL glow blue or if they match body color. However, the fact of the matter is that this LED is constantly on, which means that it is constantly consuming power. It drains the battery if left on long enough. I can't say how long this will take, but I'm just pointing it out so you don't forget! If you leave the rubber cap on, you won't see the glowing LED! On my bike, I put the connector on the end of the cable that matches the battery connector. I power this outlet with the same cable I use to charge my bike with a battery pack. I usually plan on leaving it disabled unless I have to. I'll end up either putting the switch in the wire or somehow connecting it to the relay so that it only gets power when the key is on. If I had my own preferences, I would say no to the LED! I'm attaching some photos I took on my bike. My bike is a 2014 BMW R1200GSA. As you can see I installed the socket on the right end of the handlebar. This is really the only place it will be on the steering wheel. Because they get thicker the closer they get to the center. Too thick for the orthosis to fit anywhere else! I actually like this position so far. Other options included crash bars. I was considering installing it on the panel that my navigation sits on, but for that I would need an adapter to work with a much smaller panel.
