Wooden dowels sometimes stiffen, expand and crack. These corks smell like rubber, but this does not affect the taste. When used with carbonated drinks, it works with smaller bottles but not larger ones. It didn't work so well with the sparkling wine from Martinelli, the volume was too big for one. This created more pressure, causing the cork to fly off. So the contents in the fridge were spilled. I had to "glue" it with tape and place it right side up, just in case. Buy this product today!
